Water Baptism
Once you begin a personal journey with Christ by asking Him to forgive your sins and to come into your life, the Bible spells out clearly that we are then to be baptized in water by immersion to continue our Christian journey.
Matthew 28:19 MSG
"Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit."
Romans 6:4 MSG
"When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus."
What is water baptism?
Water baptism is an obedient act of physical immersion in water that publicly represents an individual's decision to follow Christ.
Why be baptized?
Choosing to be water baptized gives support to your decision to follow Christ. It's an issue of Biblical obedience. It is important to follow the example that Christ himself gave as He chose to be baptized by John the Baptist.
Matthew 3:13 NIV
"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John."
Not only does water baptism solidify your commitment to Christ, but it is a visual reminder to all present of the new life we receive in Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come."
What age is appropriate for water baptism?
The Bible gives no age criteria for those who wish to be water baptized. The child should, however, have a clear understanding of water baptism and a personal confession of accepting Christ as Savior. This happens at different ages for all people. We suggest at least age 6.
